PETER HEINRICHS DARK STRONG FLAKE
Peter Heinrichs’ Dark Strong is traditional flake tobacco cut approximately one and a half-inch in length. Half the length of the flake is black cavendish while the other half is red Virginia. The label says it has an added plum aroma. I can’t detect that flavor or aroma. Many smokers believe it’s the same as an Orlik product. It certainly appears to be. However, the Orlik product is a tightly compressed flake in a vacuum tin while Heinrichs is loosely packed in a nicely sealed non-vacuum tin. For my tastes, the major difference is the amount of sweetness likely a result of packaging styles. I find Orlik much sweeter while Heinrichs’ sweetness is very light. I would describe the blend as light to moderate strength with the dominant taste coming from the dark cavendish while the Virginias impart their own presence in a subtle way. For many years it has been my all-day smoke, however, for my taste throughout the day I still alternate occasionally with other full-bodied unflavored pure Virginia flakes.
