Rattray's has a long and storied history of providing wonderful pipe tobaccos for more than 100 years. Although they make some fine aromatic blends, they're far better known for their natural blends which depend upon expert skills to derive the best possible flavor from tobaccos without added flavorings. Coaxing flavor out of a mixture without top-dressings and condimental tobaccos (Latakia and Perique) is quite a feat, but their classic blends such as Black Virginia and Wallace Flake have proven that they have the knack. 40 Virginia adds to that resume by combining a broad range of Virginias and Burleys, ranging from golden to dusky brown, and in a mixture of cuts, including ribbon, broken flake and even cube-cut.
